Portrait FAQ’s
HAVING A FAB PHOTOSHOOT FAQ’s
My goal is to capture wonderful images of you and your family that will last a lifetime. To make your
session as successful as possible please take a few moments to read the following FAQ’s.
Can the shoot be outside?
The photo session can either be in your home, or out and about – perhaps at a local park, woodland, or
beach? The best time of day for an outdoor shoot would be either in the morning as the sun is rising or in the
afternoon as the sun is starting to set, as this gives the best kind of light. I can bring along the portable studio
backdrop & lighting which can be set up in a room in your home (minimum clear space of 12ft x 12ft required).
Most children are quite active so the best locations are those with coloured backdrops: woods, over grown wild fields,
old buildings etc.. as open spaces can be visually plain.
What about an indoor studio shoot?
A Studio style shoot will have a different feel due to the lighting being controlled. If your child is very shy, and
not good in an busy outdoor setting, and/or if the weather is too bad, then an indoor portable studio session
would give the best result.
How long does the session take?
A typical family portrait session will take 2-3 hours depending on the location and age of the children. If you
choose to have the Heritage Portrait option, the average time is around 3-4 hours to capture a full range
of images that can be selected for the Photo Book.
What preparation is needed?
Colourful clothes are always best when photographing people either indoors or outdoors also it would be good
idea if you can bring along or have a change of top or layers to get the best variety of images for you. If I am
photographing a family with young children it is important that the photo session takes place at a time
where they are feeling at their happiest and most relaxed. Make it a fun experience for them by letting them know
it is going to be a fun day just for them!
What if the weather is bad?
Overcast and cloudy days actually offer some of the best light for photographing out of doors, as this can avoid
harsh shadows, however, rainy or other types of extreme conditions would be unsuitable (snow can be considered
if it can be kept safe) and therefore we would have to re-schedule for another date. I am more than happy to
re-arrange the session,or the shoot could be taken indoors if space is available. There is no cost to rearrange as
long as I am informed prior to leaving home.
How will we see the photographs?
After the session I will select the best images which will be edited to the highest standards, these
final images will then be put on to a DVD proofing slideshow. which can be played on most computers and
DVD players. The proof viewing session can be in your home, alternatively you may like to come to our studio,
where you will also be able to see a wide selection of sample frames, acrylic, photo books and other
contemporary wall art pieces.
If you have any question that I have not answered here for you, please just call or email me at the studio.
